Since many breeds are now moving forward into MISC, FCI recognized breed's that have FCI Standards will more than likely be used. For the Portuguese Podengo Pequeno however - the FCI standard was written for the Medium size (that is not yet in MISC) with some notations on what is specific to the Pequeno. (Note: AKC Split the Medium/Large size into a seperate breed in July 2009 now known as: Portuguese Podengo) The Pequeno is NOT a smaller version of the Medium or Large size however. There are distinct differences. So that you can be more familiar with the nuance of form and function - we have prepared these materials and have been providing judges education using these for several years, that are specific to the Pequeno size. You are welcome to consider this information as you prepare to judge this breed in the MISC Classes after January 1, 2011. The breed standard AKC has recently placed onto their website is NOT the FCI standard and does NOT decribe the ideal Podengo Pequeno. Unfortunately the AKC breed standard does not include the words "HOUND" or "RABBIT HUNTING" anywhere so AKC judges are evaluating these Primitive hounds as if they were TERRIERS or TOY's.
